Directions on how to use the Drive Medical Elongated Toilet Seat with Arms and Lock

Remove all parts from the package and READ and UNDERSTAND all the instructions before attempting to install the product.
Lift the existing toilet seat and place the rear wings of the toilet seat around the rim of the bowl. If your toilet bowl requires, you may have to remove the seat to allow proper fit of the Drive Medical seat raiser. The front adjustment bracket must clear the rim for the toilet seat riser to securely fit.
With the toilet seat raiser resting on the rim, straighten and center it over the toilet bowl as needed. Turn the adjusting knob in a clockwise direction to tighten the seat raiser in place. Do not use tools in tightening and do not over-tighten to prevent the adjustment bracket from stripping.
Check for a secure fit before using. Do this periodically before using it to prevent slips and accidents. Make sure your weight is centered over the toilet seat. Do not position too forward nor too far to one side as the device might tip.
Do not use this device if your toilet bowl’s design does not allow the toilet raiser to fit properly or be tightened securely.

What is the purpose of a raised toilet seat?

A raised toilet seat provides a safer environment
by helping prevent falls in the bathroom. The
seat raises the height of the toilet to a more
comfortable level, making it easier to sit down
and stand up. It also decreases the space
between the user and the toilet to help alleviate
any burden placed on the hips and knees.

What kind of raised toilet seat do I need?

To determine the best-raised seat for you, follow these steps:

Step 1: Determine the height needed.

Measure the length of your lower back leg and add 2 inches. For example, if your lower back leg measures 19″, you will calculate the height as 19″ + 2″ = 21″.
Measure the height of your toilet bowl and be sure not to include the seat and lid. For example 17″.
Calculate the difference. In this example, it will be calculated as 21″ – 17″ = 4″. Therefore, you need a 4″ raised toilet seat! Note: If you calculate an odd number, round it up!

Step 2: Determine the shape of your toilet.

Standard Round
Elongated

To ensure you are correctly measuring your toilet bowl, measure from the center front to the center of the mounting holes.

Step 3: Determine which installation type is right for you.

If you want the least secure fit, choose a raised toilet seat with a non-locking mechanism or locking with a knob mechanism.
If you want a secure fit, choose a raised toilet seat with a locking mechanism (with tightening clamps) or bolted riser.

Note: If other family members share the bathroom, consider choosing an easily removable option. A riser will allow you to continue using your existing seat and lid.

Step 4: Determine which features are essential to you.

Lid vs. No Lid.
Hinge vs. No Hinge (Allows for easy cleaning).
Armrests vs. No Armrests (Armrests aid transfer on and off the unit). Note the distance from your toilet to the wall when considering armrests.
Contoured (Savannah) Style. The front of the unit contours gently downward, making getting on and off of the raised toilet seat easier. Both the front and back feature openings for ease of accessibility to take care of personal cleansing.

Routinely check for secure fit before using the product.
Use arm supports only for assistance. Do not use arm supports to support your full body weight.
