Directions on how to use the Graham Field Lumiscope® Jumbo Display Digital Thermometer

Note: Refrain from eating, drinking liquids, exercising, bathing, or smoking for at least 15 minutes before measurement.

1. Disinfect the thermometer probe using isopropyl alcohol. Place a probe cover over the tip. Press the ON/OFF button and the K caption will display, followed by the last recorded temperature. If ERR appears, the thermometer needs repair or replacement.
2. If “Lo ” and blinking “°F” display, the device is now ready to use. Place the probe on your desired measurement location (oral, underarm, rectal).

ORAL USE: insert the probe tip under the patient’s tongue. To ensure accurate measurement, keep the mouth closed and do not bend or bite the probe. The normal temperature with this method is 98.6°F.

AXILLARY USE: Wipe the armpit with a dry towel. Place the probe tip under the armpit and keep the arm firmly against the body during measurement. The normal temperature with this method is 97.6°F.

RECTAL USE: if recommended by your doctor, place a probe cover on the thermometer and lubricate it with a water-soluble jelly (do not use petroleum jelly). Gently insert the tip of the probe no more than ½ inch into the rectum. Stop if you encounter resistance. Hold the thermometer in place during measurement.

3. When “°F” stops blinking, the peak temperature has been reached. A beeper will sound approximately four seconds to indicate measurement completion. After noting the measurement, turn the thermometer off.

Care Instructions

Dispose of the used probe cover and clean the thermometer using a clean, soft cloth dampened with water and a mild soap solution. Then wipe it again, this time using a clean cloth dampened with clean water. To disinfect, wipe it off with a clean cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol.

If left off accidentally, the thermometer will automatically shut off after a while. After use, store the thermometer in a secure location, out of reach of children.

Warning

• Always supervise children during temperature measurements by an adult.
• Cease use if the thermometer operates erratically or if the display malfunctions.
• DO NOT boil or use a dishwasher to clean the thermometer.
• Avoid dropping the thermometer or subjecting it to heavy shocks. It is not shock-proof
• Do not bend or bite the probe.
• DO NOT disassemble the unit except when replacing the battery.
• If the temperature has been stored at temperatures below freezing, allow it to naturally reach room temperature before use.
• DO NOT store the unit in direct sunlight, at high temperatures, or in conditions of high humidity or dust, as these factors may affect its performance.

Battery Replacement

1. Slide the battery cover off in the direction shown at right. Use a toothpick or insulated probe to remove the battery. DO NOT use any sharp metal object to remove the battery.
2. Place a new 1.5V battery in the chamber. Insert the battery with the positive (+) side up and the negative (-) side down (facing the display).
3. Slide the battery cover back onto the thermometer and make sure it is securely closed.

WARNING: Discard the old battery properly, out of the reach of children and in compliance with the local regulations. Swallowing the battery can be fatal. If the battery is swallowed, immediately contact the hospital to have it removed. DO NOT dispose of the battery in a fire as it may explode.
